Motor Oil Drum?

I have this drum that I want to use to build another UDS with, only it was used to hold bulk motor oil for the company I work for. If I power wash the hell out of the inside, and put a weed burner to it a couple of times, should I be okay with this drum? Or should I just cut my losses and go buy another drum?

Most people will tell you that it's perfectly okay. Just have a big fire in it, etc... It probably is but I chose a new, unlined barrell and still burnt the heck out of it with the Tiger Torch. (To remove exterior paint and interior rust preventive coating). I knew that I'd be serving alot of guests food that was cooked in this barrell and I felt that they, and I, would be be comfortable with an unused drum.

I wouldn't recommend using a drum that once held petroleum products, or any chemical at all for that matter. Is it really worth taking the chance of getting your family sick to save $50?

When it comes to a drum I agree. Spend the time and you'll find a clean one. After only a few days of searching, not only did I get a brand new stainless steel drum. I got if for free.
However my team has been cooking on a custom built reverse flow smoker built out of a 250 gallon home heating oil drum for a few years. No one has ever gotten sick and our food taste great. We burned it clean with a bud torch and fire hot enough to make it glow. Check out the pics on our facebook page.
