Keeping Drum Bottom Clean

Guys:

I first tried the search engine but did not locate an answer. What have you found to be most effective to prevent grease residue from building up on the bottom of your UDS? I have ordered the ash pan with my BP Drum Smoker Kit so I expect it will minimize the exposed bottom area. Do you use a heavy duty layer of aluminum foil to cover the bottom and replace as needed?

I look forward to reading your responses.

Thanks,

Ken

Ya, some people will put a big pizza pan with aluminum foil on it, then clean it out every once in a while. Personally, I don't put anything on the bottom and I haven't had any issues, but I do use the ash catcher.

I have a large disposable aluminum foil caterers pan, it is too big to fit the drum but I cut off a few inches and bent up the edges to make it a little smaller. It serves as my ash pan.

Right now, I have the issue of needing to dry it out a bit. I didn't put it away after a recent cook and it rained last night. water on the lid seeped in the vent holes.
