HELP!!!!! Temps are through the roof

Fired up the BPS this morning to give it a full run on a pork butt and my temps are rocketing up to 350-365. I can't seem to get it to settle in at 275-280.....I can get it to drop down there but then it seems to fly back up.

TIPS???

As my temps start to rise I start closing my intakes a little at time not letting it over shoot target temp, this is key to keep from it from running away on you, I shoot for 275-300 on BPS side gauge, with the warmer outside temps I usually have only a 1/2 hole one side at cooking temp. Hope this helps.

OK here is how you figure this out....fire needs oxygen....if you are having it run too high you are usually starting with too may lit coals and too much oxygen either from the bottom vents being too open or leaving the lid off....ease up to your temp and it will hold like a rock

I start off with about 10-15 lit coals from a chimney starter. Put those along one edge of your basket but only have 2/3 of one hole open on each side of your drum. Adjust for temps after that..
