Cooking Thermometer?

All:

I have an definitely use a Thermapen to allow me to grill/smoke meats to the proper temperature. However, I do not currently own a Cooking Thermometer to monitor the progress of the meat as it cooks and also to monitor the temperature of the cooker. Big Poppa sells the Maverick ET-732. What are you do use? I visited a Bed Bath and Beyond this weekend and they sell a lower priced Maverick Unit that only has a remote distance of 100 feet but that is more than ample for me.

Thanks,

Ken

I may eventually go that route if I have a lot of difficulty controlling the drum temperatures during low and slow cooks. Short-term I want to purchase a cooking thermometer, that is hopefully accurate, as all advice I have read is never trust thermometers attached to your grill as they will lie to you! Having experience using a Grill Dome I know that the thermometer mounted on it is at best an indication of how hot it actually is inside the lid!

I've used the Maverick ET-7 (black one) and the ET-732 (white one). Here are a few comments.
- The wireless signal on the black one did not work well for me ( the white one works awesome)
- They have different probe tips, so if you have to order new ones, make sure you get the right kind.
- The white one comes with one meat probe (sharp tip) and one bbq probe (dull tip). This is nice if you want to monitor bbq temps too.

I recommend the white ET-732. That in conjunction with my thermoworks instant read, I've been very happy.

Spend the little extra & get the 732. I have both models & the 100' range on the lower price model is only under ideal circumstances -- ie: clear line of sight, no obstructions, stars & moon aligned perfectly. I can go almost anywhere inside my house & my 732 never loses signal while the other loses signal as soon as I walk thru the door.

I have two ET73's and they have lasted for years and are still reporting accurate temps. If I had to replace one of them it would probably be with a 732. You didn't go cheap with your Thermapen, why start now?

It wasn't that hard it all to set up. I did one cook so far and I love it. It's pretty to cool watching the pit temperature and the food temperature tru a app on a smart phone.
