Red, a good friend of mine, and I completed a new Big Poppa Engineered Drum Smoker over the Christmas Holidays. Having completed a SS Version for my home in NC earlier in the year I convinced Red we needed a drum smoker on the Eastern Shore. We both love smoking and cooking good Q so it was an easy sell, especially after he visited this website.
Red obtained a new steel drum from his employer for cost of $25.00. Over the Thanksgiving Holidays we drilled all of the holes for the Big Poppa Kit and had a heck of a bonfire in it to burn off the paint. Over the next three weeks Red sanded the drum, to remove remaining paint and painted it with a high gloss grill paint. This is the finished drum:
