Thread: Paint over?

I bought a new drum that is painted on the outside. Do I need to remove the paint before applying the high heat paint, or can I just paint right over the existing paint? I wanna smoke some meat not poison my family.

You'll need to remove the existing paint first or you'll be doing it all over again. The original paint can't stand up to the heat and will peel off taking the high temp. paint with it.

I used a weed torch from Harbor Freight. It was cheap and did a great job. Only took about an hour and used half a propane tank.
