Water Pan and Probe Mod

While waiting for the ribs to get ready I did a little customizing. Wanted to put a few probe hole in the drum so I can get a more accurate grate temp right where the food was and be able to have access to get food temp of what I was cooking.

I bought a Weber Gourmet Sear Grate, a 8qt stainless bowl, and a couple of Hi-Temp silicone grommets from Maverick.
I also got a new Maverick 732 cause my rottie attacked the remote recieverr of my other one due to the fact that the alarm was beeping during a previous cook and the sound was driving him nuts :rolleyes::D

The water pan did a great job diffusing the heat and I only found a temp difference of a bout 12 degs between the center probe and the BPS probe on the edge. Very happy with that. This mod just added some more versatility to an already versatile drum smoker.

The probe access holes ( I know...not lined up lol ) will not only let me monitor the grate and food temp, but let me keep an eye on the temps of 2 food item if I want to do 2 different types of meat or significantly different weights of the same meat. I must say, the Mav 732 fits nicely on the heat shield.

can't get mad at that face!! What a handsome boy! lol

Nice mod! No fabricating which keeps it simple and easy to replicate! 12 degrees diff between center and edge is GREAT!
