Finally I'm a Drum Smoker

I got my drum kit a couple of days ago and had the chance to put it all together the last few days. So Happy with it..

Hats off to Big Poppa for putting this kit out there. Made owning a great performing UDS very easy and just about guaranteed a successful build.

Got my drum a couple of weeks ago and was so anxious to get started, I got it sandblasted and stripped the paint off
with a stripping wheel and my drill. Taking to the paint off was the hardest part of the project for sure. My drill was screaming for a break and got so hot that I couldn't hold it. After I stripped the thing I realized that this drum is gonna oxidize and quick and I don't have the kit yet. So I put a coat of paint on it and waited for the kit.

Well the Kit come Thursday and Friday I set out to build the drum.
As Luck would have it...Ding Dong !!! Parents stop by. 2 hours later "ok lets get this going I'm burning daylight"
Then again....DING DONG!!! Inlaws are here!
I was able to get the hole located and drilled though.

So today I'm determined to finish it no matter what. But before I started I realized I was missing something. My OTS had no meat on it and no smoke wafting from it! So I ran and got a little 3 lb brisket flat, rubbed it up and threw it on.

Ok back to the build. Put another couple coats of paint on it and watched my ugly drum transform into a beautiful piece of culinary smoking perfection!
Oiled up the inside and filled the basket with Kingsford Blue and some Apple and Cherry wood and let the seasoning begin.

Gonna do some test runs the next couple days to get comfortable with temp control and plan on building scooters ash catcher mod and maybe drilling some hole for my Maverick 732 food and pit probes. Cant wait to show off my first cook but haven't decided on what that will be...ribs or chicks or a fattie ?????

Now I can say it for real...Let the Games Begin!!!
