View Full Version : Drum Lid Question

Looking for some help/advice please. I was able to get a real nice food grade SS drum for a great deal. The problem is it is a closed lid drum. How hard is it to convert this drum to an open top so I can make this drum a smoker? I don't expect that I am going to be able to this myself. Anyone have any input or suggestions?

I should also say that I do not want to go the route of just cutting the closed lid off and using a weber lid. Anyone with some ideas or experiences with this that can chime in would be great.

I've built a bunch of drum smokers and the diameter of the open drums are larger than closed barrels. Been cooking on them since 2007 and you won't find much difference between using a flat lid or Weber kettle IMO. If I had a closed Stainless steel drum, I wouldn't hesitate to use a Weber lid.
