I am picking up a brand new drum from a supplier here in OKC.
Do i need to get the paint off the outside of the drum before i paint it with the rustoleum high heat paint, or can i just paint over whatever is already on it? I really dont want to have to get some paint remover, etc and spend hours removing the existing paint since its brand new.

Yes get it off. I just burned a bunch of wood in the barrel and most of the flaked off. I would do suggest drilling the whole first though. That way you can keep the burn going with the kids on and the paint on the lid can burn of too.

I would be careful when burning the lid though. Stand by and watch it. When the paint starts flaking, spin and flip it often. It will warp real fast. The longest I have ever let a lid burn for was 30 minutes and it by far has been the worst one for warpage yet. If your lid warps, you will need to get a rope seal or go with the old Tin foil trick.

Good luck. Hope it turns out great!
